SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The PowerHockey Cup is coming to Saint Paul on July 21-24. The event will feature some of the best wheelchair hockey players in North America going head-to-head to be this year’s tournament champion. The tournament will take place in The Legendary Roy Wilkins Auditorium and is free and open to the public.
The PowerHockey Cup is a biennial event that allows the athletes to compete against the best wheelchair hockey teams in the country. The two-time champion Minnesota Saints will look to defend their title against seven teams from North Carolina, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Canada as well as in-state competitor Minnesota Selects.
PowerHockey is an aggressive sport played only in a power wheelchair using a ball rather than a puck. There are five players from each team, including the goalie, on the floor at a time. Each game will have three 15-minute periods that are played using a running clock. All rules of the game can be found online.
The Legendary Roy Wilkins Auditorium Exhibition Hall is connected to Xcel Energy Center making it easy and convenient for fans to access the games. The event is presented by Minnesota PowerHockey League.
