The 2013 US PowerHockey Champion Philadelphia PowerPlay notched their first victory in pool play with a win 4-0 win against the Michigan Mustangs. In the first period Philadelphia PowerPlay light up the scorboard twice, while Michigan was held scoreless by PowerPlay goaltender Erin Gordan. Neither team scored in the second period and Philadelphia put the game out of reach with 2 goals in the 3rd period.  Philadelphia rising star forward Jake Saxton (#18) scored 3 goals and also had 1 assist.

Pool A – Game 1: Toronto Lake Raiders 6 – Carolina Fury 1

The Toronto Lake Raiders started out on fire in their first game in pool play with a win 6-1 win against the Carolina Fury. In the first period Toronto found the back of the net twice, while Carolina had 1 goal by George Silvey (#71). Toronto scored 1 goal in the second period and put the game out of reach with 3 more goals in the 3rd period.  Toronto forward Saverio Romano (#16) scored 4 goals to take the points lead for day 1 of the tournament.

The Ottawa Capitals started the PowerHockey Cup 2014 with a win against the up-start Minnesota Selects. The first period was a scoreless tight defensive battle, while the 2nd period both teams get on the scoreboard with 1 goal each. In the 3rd period, Ottawa scored 2 goals (1 empty net goal) to seal the victory.
